Oakley was a son of Ruben Ray and Thany Burton. He was born and raised in the Floyyd and Burton Counties areas of Iowa. He worked as an electrician and a stationary engineer.

On 6 Oct 1907 he married Mary Jane Burbridge in Allison, IA; they were the parents of seven children: Kenneth, Rupert, Velma, Opal, Richard, Goldia and Arnold. Mary died in late 1919.

On 8 Oct 1923 he married Mrs. Rosa Palmer in Waverly, IA; they had no children, though Rosa had three sons from a previous marriage: Leslie, Melvin and Harold Palmer.

Funeral services for Oakley V. Ray, 88, of 116 E. 8th St., will be Wednesday, 10 a.m. at the Parrot and Wood funeral home with the Rev. Andrew Gentry of Trinity Baptist Church officiating.

Committal service will be at noon Wednesday at the Allison Cemetery, Allison. Friends may call at the funeral home.

Mr. Ray died at St. Francis Hospital at 1 p.m. Saturday of a heart attack. He was born June 28, 1885, at Rockford, the son of Ruben and Thana Burton Ray, he was married to Mary Burbridge in 1908. After her death he was married to Rosa Palmer, Oct. 8, 1923, in Waverley. He was a retired stationary engineer.

Survivors are four sons, Kenneth of Beloit, Wis., Rubert of 220 Randall St., Richard of Backus, Minn. and Arnold of 1334 Lyon St.; three daughters, Mrs. Velma Witcher of Millerdale Addition, Mrs. Opal Held Lewisville, Texas and Mrs. Goldia Cone of 234 Baltimore St.; three stepsons, Leslie Palmer of Waterloo, Melvin Palmer of Janesville, and Harold Palmer of Houston, Texas; 26 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; three step grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Gladys Holschuh of Clarksville. He was preceded by two wives and two brothers.
