Jim Ramlo, one of Winneshiek county's well known pioneer farmers, died at his farm home one mile east of Hesper on Saturday, March 15. Mr. Ramlo had enjoyed good health up until about two years before his death, when he became affected with heart trouble, which, with other complications, caused his death.

Mr. Ramlo was born Nov. 7, 1865, on a farm in Houston county, Minn. He was the son of Tarald and Marit Ramlo. Soon after his birth his parents took up a homestead near the town of Hesper in Winneshiek county. Here Jim was baptized and after the regular instruction was confirmed by the pioneer pastor, Rev. H.A.Stub, in the Hesper Lutheran congregation.

Mr. Ramlo was the youngest of five children. His three brothers, Halsten, Halvor and Peter Ramlo, and one sister, Anna (Mrs. Einar Peterson) preceded him in death.

Mr. Ramlo was married twice. His first marriage was to Miss Ingeborg Nelson and they established their home one mile east of Hesper where they resided for 20 years. Two children were born to this union, Charles Ramlo, of Wilkie, Sask., Canada, who survives, and Mrs. Clara Goodberg. The latter preceded her father in death.

In 1903, Mr. Ramlo sold his farm, purchasing a home close to the village of Hesper. With this place was connected 11 acres of land and where he lived until his death. Shortly after establishing their new home, Mrs. Ramlo died. Three years after her death Mr. Ramlo was married to Miss Johanna Bjorgan, on Jan. 19, 1906. To this union eight children were born, four of whom preceded their father in death. They are Edward, Johan Norman, Clarissa Odelia and Clara Oxiddlia, who were twins. The surviving children are James Edward of Spring Grove, Minn.; Tilda Idella (Mrs. Owen Brenno); Clara (Mrs. Orwol Brenno), both of Canton, Minn., and Myrtle Geneva (Mrs. Harlan Carpenter) of Hesper, Iowa. The wife and mother survives, also 11 grandchildren.

Mr. Ramlo was a man of high worth and character, respected and esteemed by many friends. Much sympathy is extended to the bereaved ones left to mourn.

Funeral services were held on Thursday afternoon at one o'clock from the late home, and at 1:30 from the Hesper Lutheran church. The Rev. I. Havneros officiated and interment was in the cemetery near by.
