Mrs. Adah A. Delano, Passes Away at 98 Following Eventful Life
Mrs. Adah Adel Delano, for 25 years a resident of Frannie, Wyoming, making her home with Mr. and Mrs. Arlie Delano living on a farm a mile east of Frannie, passed from this life Thursday morning at 8 o'clock at the age of 98 years.
She was born at Berlin, Wisconsin, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D. T. Clark of that place. Her mother was Mary Jane O'Moore, whose father was Raney O'Moore, who was one of the leaders in the historic attempt in about the early 19th century, known as the Athenian raid, trying to drive the English out of Canada. She was born in the year 1854, and grew to womanhood in the eastern Nebraska country where her parents homesteaded in the early days. She later lived in Illinois and Indiana, where in the days following the Civil War was a member of the Knights of the Golden Circle, an organization which prior to the Civil War helped Negro slaves gain their freedom into Canada. Her father served throughout the Civil War.
She married Gardner S. Delano in Wisconsin about 70 years ago. They were parents of eight children, three of whom preceded their mother in death. The husband passed from life in 1905 at the family home in Masonville, Iowa.
Mrs. Delano came to Wyoming to make her home with her son and two daughters, Arlie Delano and Mrs. Inez Homewood of Frannie and daughter, Mrs. Lula Haigh of Powell.
She came in the fall of 1927 and this community has since been her home.
The funeral service will be held at the Deaver Community Church Sunday afternoon at 2:30. The pallbearers are six grandsons of the elderly woman. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery beside the grave of her son, Ralph, who lost his life in an automobile accident near Laurel, Montana, 16 years ago.
Known as "Grandma" to everyone, Mrs. Delano is survived by four daughters and one son; 24 grandchildren and more than 30 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Delano had 16 grandsons and granddaughters in their country's service during the late war.
Mrs. Delano possessed a life membership in the American Legion at Lovell. In her younger days she was Baptized and became a member of the Episcopal church. She held a life membership in the National Grange and affiliated in membership with the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Although very elderly when she came here at 73 years of age, Mrs. Delano quickly became attached to the Wyoming hills and mountains.
Survivors are a son Arlie, of Frannie; Mrs. Stella Bishop, living in Missouri; Mrs. Chattie Hansel of Edgewood, Iowa; Mrs. Inez Homewood of Frannie and Mrs. Lula Haigh of Powell.
Melvin Delano, a grandson, was formerly associated with Frontier Airlines at the Powell Airport.
