Funeral service for Mrs. Vida Bertrell Evans, 97, of Alexander City, will be Wednesday, August 15, 2012 at 3:00 pm at the Chapel of Radney Funeral Home. Rev. Stephen Webb will officiate. Burial will follow in the Hillview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 15, 2012 from 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm at Radney Funeral Home.

Mrs. Evans passed away on Sunday, August 12, 2012 at Russell Medical Center. She was born on December 25, 1914 in Daviston, Alabama to John Matthew Coger and Mattie Ovada Bishop Coger. She was an active member of Orr Street Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and led Bible Study Groups. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and was a great supporter of the Alabama Baptist Children's Homes. She began her career with the Bishop Floral Company and later founded Evan's Flowers in downtown Alexander City. She participated in many floral design competitions throughout the state and won many blue ribbons for her work. She grew most of her own flowers in her greenhouse and in her garden. Mrs. Bert enjoyed sewing, baking, cooking, canning, and vegetable gardening. With all of her talents, her main focus was on her family, her Church, and her floral design business. Mrs. Bert was a very talented, loving and generous lady and will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her daughter, Joyce Riley (Kenny) of Alexander City; grandchildren, Ken Riley (Melanie) and Kristin Harrelson (Greg), all of Birmingham; great-grandchildren, Evans Riley, Braxton Harrelson, and Riley Harrelson; and sister, Johnnie Gail Jones (Jimmy) of Daviston.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Luther Evans; her parents; sister, Mary Hodnett; and brothers, Fred Coger and Dovard Coger.
