Abigail Slocomb, dau. of Appeles Slocomb and Deborah Coleman, b. Apr. 1, 1798 at Templeton, Mass. but not recorded in the Templeton town record. She d. Aug. 28, 1878 at Lawrence, KS.

On Oct. 20, 1822 at Morristown, VT, Abigail m. Calvin Burnett, s. of Jonathan Burnett, Jr. and Abigail Parish, b. Oct. 20, 1794 at Bethel, VT. He d. Aug. 22, 1878 at Lawrence, KS. They had seven children who are outlined in their father's memorial.

It is evident in Vol. I of the "Short History of the Slocums, Slocumbs, Slocombs...," by Dr. Charles Elihu Slocum (1882), that the author was not well versed concerning the 3rd and subsequent generations of the Simon Slocomb family of Boston and Wrentham, Mass. In 1891 in the New England Historical Genealogic REGISTER Dr. Slocum published an inquiry seeking help in better definition of the Simon Slocomb family. In Dr. Slocum's follow-up Vol. II in 1908, this later volume misrepresents dates, places, names, where portions of the Simon Slocomb family settled and what child married what spouse.

Simon Slocomb, Jr. m. the memorialist's ancestral cousin Abigail,5 Metcalf (Ezekiel,4 Ezekiel,3 Michael,2 Michael,1), not as claimed by Dr. Slocum to Abigail,4 (Ezekiel,3, Ezekiel,2 Michael,1). Simon Slocomb, Jr. and Abigail Metcalf had son Archilles, b. of record June 10, 1756 at Wrentham, Mass. This son would become known as Appeles Slocumb (q.v. Slocum), who m. Deborah Coleman. They resided at Templeton, Mass. where Appeles had at least 11, not 6 as claimed, children at Templeton, and according to the Slocomb genealogy "moved northwestward, and probably died in Vermont, in or near Woodstock." It is unclear whether Appeles actually had two wives, the youngest children possibly b. by the second wife.

In reality, Appeles Slocum, Sr. never was near Woodstock, in Windsor County, rather the 1800 to 1830 U.S. censuses clearly show Appeles was residing either at Morristown, VT or its nearby town of Eden, both originally part of Orleans County but now part of Lamoille County, VT. Among Appeles' numerous children are three in particular: Abigail, b. of record at Templeton, Mass. Feb. 22, 1777, who Charles Slocum claimed m. an unknown Boardman; dau. Polly, bapt. Sept. 29, 1793 claimed to have married an unknown Burnet; and Nelson, b. of record at Templeton, May 13, 1796.

The Vermont Vital Records clearly define that Appeles' dau. Abigail b. in 1777 died young. She was replaced by a second but unrecorded dau. Abigail b. April 1, 1798 at Templeton. She m. Calvin Burnett as outlined above. Dau. Polly was Mary Slocumb, who on Sept. 25, 1826 at Morristown, VT, m. Alfred C. Boardman, who for more than 30 years was Morristown's town clerk. Alfred d. of heart disease at Morristown in 1871 and Mary (Slocomb) Boardman died of pneumonia at Waterbury, VT in 1874. On Jan. 17, 1822 at Morristown, Nelson Slocomb m. Lovisa Goodale (q.v. Goodell) and had seven children at Morristown. He d. at Morristown in 1861 and his widow in 1889. In a published sketch regarding Nelson's grandson, Charles Herbert Slocum, a prominant businessman at Hyde Park adjoining Morristown, Charles stated that his great grandfather Appeles lived the last 30+ years of his life at Eden, VT where he died in the 1830s.

Mary (Slocomb) Boardman, Nelson Slocomb, and Abigail (Slocomb) Burnett, as well as their respective spouses, have known gravestones.

In addition, Mary, Nelson and Abigail Slocomb's older sister Rebecca m. circa 1804 Benjamin Cleveland (q.v. Cleaveland) and had upwards of 12 children of record either at Morristown or northwest adjoining Hyde Park. Benjamin and Rebecca are interred at Morristown, VT. Benjamin Cleveland's sister Mary was the wife of Simon Slocomb, the oldest brother of Rebecca, Mary, Nelson and Abigail Slocomb, b. Oct. 10, 1775 at Templeton, Mass.
