Terry was born May 19, 1937. She was adopted as an infant by Bob and Fern Pennar, and was raised in Alexandria, MN.
Terry married PJ Smith in 1959 and together they had four children. They lived in Japan and Germany while he was in the army, and returned to the US in 1970. They later divorced.
As a single mother, Terry struggled to make ends meet, and eventually she returned to college at St Cloud State. She was active in many groups, most notably the Association of Non-Traditional Students (ANTS), where she made many friendships that lasted the rest of her life. She graduated in 1989.
She worked in various locations as a social worker, but most enjoyed working at the Stearns County Jail as a visitation supervisor. She also was a volunteer with the Foster Grandparent Program and loved her "kids" at the Sartell Middle School.
Terry passed away August 31, 2008. She is survived by her children: Dwaine, St Cloud; Douglas (Kristine), Inver Grove Heights; Dennis (Kelly), Evansville; Kathleen (Scott Terwey), Foley; grandchildren: Caitlin, Cara, Nicholas and Travis; sister Jacqueline Neilson (James) and family, as well as many foster grandkids and friends.
