Kenneth Leroy Erickson, son of Alfred E. and Lydia E. (Johnson) Erickson, was born on November 24, 1917 in Grant County, ND. He grew up and graduated from high school there before moving to Valley Springs, SD in 1937.

Kenneth entered the U.S. Army at Fort Crook, NE on October 28, 1941. He served in the Papua, the East Indies and New Guinea in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. Following his honorable discharge on September 7, 1945, Kenneth returned to Valley Springs.

Kenneth was united in marriage with Loretta Kuhnert at Beaver Valley Lutheran Church in June of 1949. He worked as a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service. Loretta preceded him in death on April 15, 1953.

Kenneth was united in marriage with A. Arlene Peterson at Beaver Valley Lutheran Church on August 29, 1954. He retired from the postal service in 1974. Kenneth also worked as custodian at Beaver Valley Lutheran Church for 10 years.

Kenneth was a long-time member of Beaver Valley Lutheran Church. He was also a member of the Optimist Club, a member and former chaplain of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, a 52-year member of the Valley Springs American Legion and sang with the Norse Glee Club.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Arlene; two children, Michael Erickson and his wife, Christine, Brandon, SD, Lorene Hollenbeck, Valley Springs, SD; ten grandchildren; Three great-grandchildren; three brothers, twin brother Kermit Erickson and his wife, Eleanor, Brandon, SD, Randall Erickson and his wife, Velma, Phoenix, AZ, Raymond Erickson and his wife, Phyllis, Valley Springs, SD; and a host of other relatives and friends.

In addition to his first wife, Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Agnes Johnson and a 2-year-old sister.

Relatives and friends are invited to gather with the family for lunch and fellowship at Beaver Valley Lutheran Church following the committal service at Swedona Covenant Cemetery.
