Mrs. Martha M. Harris
Wife of Senator Isham G. Harris, Dies at Paris Tenn
Paris, Jan. 29--Mrs. Martha M. Harris, wife of Senator Isham G. Harris, died at the residence of T.H. Conway in Paris at 1 o'clock this morning, after an illness of a month's duration. The remains were carried to Memphis for interment tonight. The deceased lady was in her 74th year, and was a native of Henry county, being a daughter of Maj. Edward Travis, a prominent gentleman of this county in antebellum days. She was married in Paris to Senator Harris on July 6, 1843 by Rev. R.W. Cole. Four sons Survive her, J.E., Ed., Isham and Charley. Two brothers, Col. W.E. Travis and Mr. James S. Travis, live in this county. She was a member of the M.E. Church, South, and a lady of quiet tastes. She has lived in Paris since her husband's election to the Senate.

The Wife of Tennessee's Senior Senator Expires at Paris
Paris, January 20--Mrs. Martha A. Harris, wife of Senator Harris, died at 1 o'clcok Tuesday night at the home of T.H. Conway. Her remains will be carried to Memphis for Burial tonight. She was in her seventy-fifth year, and a life=long member of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South. She was the daughter of Maj. Edward Travis, now deceased, a gentleman of prominence and wealth of Henry county. She was married to Senator Harris over fifty years ago, and leaves five sons, Ed and Charlie, who hold government positions in Washington; J.E. Harris, assistant postmaster at Memphis, and Isham G. Harris Jr. of Texas. Two brothers, Col. W.E. Travis and J.S. Travis, of Henry survive her.
Senator Harris, who came here from Washington several days since, summoned by his wife's illness, was himself attacked with grip. He is better today and will be out soon.
In addition to the children linked below, Martha and Isham Harris had another son, Charles Henry Harris. He died Dec. 6 1937 in Washington DC, burial unknown at this time. He married and was divorced from Sallie Woodward. His second wife was named Mamie.
