Ailey, GA - Mrs. Betty McCallum Bivins, age 75 of Ailey died Thursday, February 9, 2012 in the Community Hospice House in Vidalia after an extended illness. She was a native of Montgomery County and graduated in 1954 from the Mt. Vernon-Ailey High School as the Salutatorian. After high school, she married her husband, who was a Marine and they traveled the United States during his career. She was a graduate of Brewton-Parker Junior College in Mt. Vernon, and earned her Bachelor's degree from Wesleyan College in Macon, where she was a member of the Sigma Alpha Iota, which is a music fraternity for women. She earned her Master's degree from Georgia Southern.

In 1973 she moved back home and taught piano for many years. She was a math teacher and the computer coordinator for the Montgomery Public schools and retired after twenty years of service. She was a charter member of the College Hill Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon, was a member of the Daughter's of the American Revolution and was an avid genealogist. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Ware McCallum and Pearl Maurine Meadows McCallum McRae.

Funeral services will be held Monday, February 13th at 3:00 pm in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Mt. Vernon City Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.
