He was born Sept. 15,1936, in Sioux Lookout, Ontario, to Francis G. and Corrine M. (Orrenmaa) LaLonde. He came to the United States at age 5, grew up in Hermantown and had been a Proctor resident since l980. George was a graduate of Hermantown High School and a peacetime veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in Germany. He had been an employee of U.S. Steel's Duluth Works, Lyons Ford and Bankers Life and Casualty Co. of Kenosha, Wis., Dart Transit and then Jeff Foster Trucking from 1990 until the present time. Among his numerous awards, he received the One Million Mile Accident Free Award from the American Trucking Association.
George married Karen Tuomi-Spindler Dec. 2, 1983, in Tennessee. He was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church and the Proctor Golf Association. He was a volunteer instructor for the Proctor Junior Golf League and was deeply involved in neighborhood community work. George was an avid golfer and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He was preceded in death by his father, Francis, in 1983; his mother, Corrine, in 1981; and special companions, Muffy, Gizmo and Walker.
Survivors include his wife, Karen (Tuomi-Spindler) LaLonde, mother-in-law, Elma Tuomi; children Barbara (David) Christianson, Chuck Spindler (Kayleen), George (Tammy) LaLonde Jr., Kim Waldal (Jason) and Donald LaLonde (Diane); brothers Leo (Virginia), Jerry (Cathie), Jim, Bob (Darla), and Tom; 15 grandchildren and dedicated companions Wizzer and Sparky.
Burial was in Oneota Cemetery.
