Elmo (Sandy) Sanders passed away Sunday, October 18, 2009, at his niece, Mary Gaston's home in League City, Texas. He was born May 24, 1915 in Walnut Wells, New Mexico. Elmo was a Sgt. in the US Army and a Veteran of World War II, serving in the European Theatre. He was a member of Galveston's VFW Post 880.

Elmo was a carpenter by trade and a member of the Galveston Local Carpenter's Union. He lived most of his life in Galveston but after Hurricane Ike has resided with his niece. Elmo loved traveling to various states visiting relatives. His greatest love was being surrounded by family.

Elmo was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Belle Baron Sanders; second wife of 9 years, Rachel Parrish Sanders; parents, John and Sara Sanders; foster daughter, Blanche Sage; stepson, Charles Byrket; sisters, Fawn McBirnie, Fern Likes Walker, and Florine Stokes; and brothers, Dick, Eric, Elam, and Robert Sanders.

Elmo is survived by brothers, Douglas and George Sanders; sisters Lola Hicks, Carol Anderson and husband, Larry; and Norma Sanders; stepsons Marty Parrish and wife, Yolanda; Gerald Byrket and wife, Sidnie; Larry Byrket and wife, Charlene; and James Byrket and wife, Lynn; numerous grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and other relatives.

Elmo?s family will receive visitors from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 20th, at Malloy & Son Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 21st, at Malloy & Son Funeral Home with Elmo's brother-in-law, Larry Anderson, officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeview Cemetery in Galveston.
