Ellen was born on January 26 1954 to Windsor and Mabel in Denver. She had 2 brothers, 2 half-sisters and a half brother. She attend Denver Schools, Western State College in Gunnison and Colorado State University where she was awarded a masters degree in school administration.

She married Greg Golovanoff July 1975 and they had 4 children, Nick, Ben, Tonya and Christina. They were divorced in 1986.

Ellen taught science classes in the Denver Public Schools. Then she moved to Encampment Wyoming where she acquired a gift shop and tax preparation business.

At the time of her death, she was an owner of the Saratoga Merchantile, was a financial advisor and had a home in Encampment, Wyo.

She left behind her companion, Robert Epp with whom she loved to fish, square dance, watch ball games and bike.
