Mary Betty Whitson Courtney, age 82, died Friday, December 23, 2011, at Cedar Ridge Health Campus, in Cynthiana, Kentucky. Born in Harrison County, Kentucky, on February 4, 1929, to the late Charles Vernard and Anna Elizabeth Mallory Whitson, she was a former Avon sales representative.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by: her husband, Ernest B. Courtney; and four brothers, Kenneth Whitson, Ron Whitson, Ed Whitson and Charles Whitson. She is survived by: three daughters, Gloria Jean (Buddy) Collins, of Cynthiana, Mary Elizabeth Lemp, of Lexington, and Lois Diane (Bradley) Copes, of Cynthiana; three brothers, Ray Whitson, Fred Whitson and Jeryl Whitson, all of Harrison County; six grandchildren, Kimberly Ann Wilson, Alva Bruce Collins, IV, Tina Nolan Bastin, Donna Carr Palmer, Jessica Courtney Lemp and Christina Marie Lea; and six great-grandchildren, Jan Taylor, Clint, Courtney, Jacob, Shelby and Katie.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Ware Funeral Home by Reverend Carol Whiting. Visitation will be from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Courtney Family Cemetery, in Harrison County. Memorial contributions may be made to the Pleasant Green Baptist Church Building Fund. Active pallbearers will be nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Frank McKemie and Dr. Joe A. Nichols.
