Mildred was born on July 12, 1925 to the late Aloys and Elizabeth (Ficker) Roling in St. Louis, Missouri. She was raised and attended school in Fenton, Missouri. On October 25, 1947 in St. Louis she was united in marriage to Donald Gross and to this union three children were born. They moved to Joplin in 1959 where her husband went to work as a sports director for KFSB Radio. Millie was an active supporter of Joplin Crosslines, St. Mary's Alter Society, and the Zuni Indian Mission in Mississippi.
Mrs. Gross was preceded in death by her husband, a brother Robert Roling, and a sister Gloria Roling Bammert.
She is survived by a son Donald Gross, Jr. of Carthage, two daughters Debbie McWhirter, and Mary Gross both of Joplin, two granddaughters, Jennifer Williams, and Kristy White, four great-grandchildrentwo sisters Lois Diehl of St. Louis, Missouri and Geraldine Buechler of O'Fallon, Missouri, and a brother Edward Roling of St. Genevieve, Missouri.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 am on Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at the St. Peter's the Apostle Catholic Church with Father Justin Monaghan officiating, burial will follow at the Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery in Joplin. A Rosary will be said at 6:00 pm Tuesday with visitation to follow until 7:30 pm at the Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary in Joplin.
