Crowley—Funeral services for Mrs. Georgia Lee Lester Hernandez, 76, will be held on Thursday, December 22, 2011 at 1:00 P.M. in Duhon Funeral Home Chapel, Crowley, LA. The Reverend Berl Adams will officiate. Interment will follow in Abshire Cemetery, Kaplan, LA.
Mrs. Hernandez passed away on Sunday, December 18, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. in her Iota residence.
A native of Baton Rouge and longtime resident of Baker, Mrs. Hernandez had lived in Kaplan for several years prior to relocating to Iota about ten years ago. She was a member of the American Legion, and was an avid BINGO player. She enjoyed camping, fishing, and listening to KBON. Mrs. Hernandez could often be found at the Waffle House in Crowley, where she enjoyed visiting and carrying on long conversations.
Survivors include her daughters, Teresa Cedars and husband, Buddy of Carencro, and Jan Mitchell of Lafayette; brother, William "Bill" Lester, Jr. of Baker; grandsons, John Stein and wife, Karen of Stuart, OK, Brandon Mitchell and wife, Tabitha of Jennings, and Steve Stein, Jr. of Baker; great-grandchildren, Kaylen Marie Stein, Jalie Becnel, Rose Stein, Rowan Stein, Jayda Mitchell, Jillian Mitchell, and Cole Mitchell; special nephew, Benny White, Jr.; special niece, Beth White Allen; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Proceeding Mrs. Hernandez in death were her husband, Claude "Blackie" Hernandez; parents, William Lester, Sr. and Bernice Aldrich Lester; and sisters, Mary Grace White and Billie Jean Cook.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 21, 2011 from 9:00 A.M. until 9:00 P.M. in Duhon Funeral Home, Crowley, and will continue on Thursday from 8:00 A.M. until service time in the funeral home.
