George served in the Union Army during the Civil War. He enlisted as a Private in Company B, 14th Missouri Calvary, in 1862.

In the 1880 census, George and his family were living in Tiger Fork Township, Shelby County, Missouri. He was listed as George Culler, a farmer, age 34 born in Pennsylvania, his wife, Ellen, age 41 born in Missouri, their children listed were; James C. age 5, Eddie G. age 4, and Louis B. age 1, all born in Missouri

He married Ellen Elizabeth Allison on April 3, 1873 in Shelby County, Missouri.
