Harriette H. Pierce
Harriette H. Needham was born March 8, 1851, in Carlton, Orleans county, N. Y. When a child of seven years she, with her parents,Truman Needham and his wife Miranda Sheldon Needham, moved to Ohio.
At the age of 17 years she was united in marriage to Charles G. Pierce, Oct. 4, 1868 in Milford, Defiance county, Ohio. With her husband she came to Van Buren county, Michigan, Feb. 16, 1877, but death claimed him on Jan. 6, 1913. To this union was born four girls. The oldest, Anna Lenora, who died in infancy, Mrs. Elizabeth Traver, of Hartford, Mich., Mrs. Jennie Stewart, Chicago, Ill., and Mrs. Ada Rice, of Berrien Springs, Mich., who passed away October 21, 1916. She also leaves five grandchildren, one brother, Edwin Needham, of Kalamazoo, besides nieces and nephews and a host of friends who mourn her loss.
In her younger years, she, with her husband, united with the Universalist church and continued through life a true Christian. Thirty-nine years of her married life were spent in Hartford township.
March 9, 1915, she became a social member of Gross Park Hive, No. 871, of the Ladies of the Maccabees of Chicago, Ill., of which she was a member at her death. She quietly passed away after being a great and patient sufferer of paralysis, Saturday evening, December 8, 1917, at the Oak Forest sanitarium at Oak Forest, Ill.
The remains were brought back to her old home, Hartford, Mich., where services were conducted at the Baptist church, by Rev. W. Cas. Edwards, after which she was quietly laid to rest in the old cemetery by the side of her husband.
