World War I Victoria Cross Medal Recipient. He served as a Second Lieutenant in the 1st Battalion, Honorable Artillery Company, British Army. On April 29, 1917, at Gavrelle, France, the troops of various units had become disorganized due to heavy casualties from German shell fire. Second Lieutenant Pollard realized the seriousness of the situation and with only four men he started a counter-attack with bombs, pressing forward until he had broken the enemy attack and regained the lost ground in addition. For gallantry in the face of the enemy, he was awarded the Victoria Cross Medal.
