Mrs. Rose Vassallo, beloved wife of Joseph M.J. Vassallo of Calgary, passed away peacefully at the Carewest Sarcee on December 15, 2010.

Besides her loving husband, Rose is survived by her brother G.C. (Bess) Bombardieri, Ph.D. of Calgary, her sister Anna Smith of Vancouver, her brother Joseph Alfred Bombardieri of Vancouver, a sister-in-law Edna Bombardieri of Calgary, fourteen nephews and nieces, twenty-one grandnephews and nieces and by ten great-grandnephews and nieces.

Rose worked for the Federal Government in the Department of National Defence and Veterans Affairs; she was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral and St. Mary's Fraternity of St. Francis Third Order. Rose was an original member of Calgary Citizenship Council and Calgary District Commissioner of Cubs for the City of Calgary. She was awarded Akela Medal by Governor General Lord Alexander of Tunis for her work with the Cubs. Rose was also a member of the Venerable Archconfraternity of St. Joseph of Rabat in Mdina, Malta where her remains will be interred in the family crypt at National Sanctuary of St. Joseph in Rabat, Malta.

Relatives and friends were invited to Prayers and Tributes at St. Mary's Cathedral (219 - 18 Avenue S.W.) on Sunday, December 19, 2010 at 5:00 p.m. Funeral Mass celebrated at St. Mary's Cathedral (219 - 18 Avenue S.W.) on Monday, December 20, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. Arrangements in care of Evan J. Strong Funeral Services.
