U.S. Congressman. In 1809, he moved to New York, graduated from Union College, in 1816, studied law, was admitted to the bar and commenced to practice law in Putnam County. He was a member of the New York State Assembly, (1826-28). In 1829, he was elected as an Anti-Jacksonian to the Twenty-first Congress, serving until 1831. After his term, he moved to New York City in 1834 and practiced law until his death at age 75.
