Frederick "Fred" Deuth, son of Joseph and Tillie (Meier) Deuth, was born on October 1, 1905 in Ashton, Iowa. He grew up on a farm northeast of Rushmore, Minnesota. Later he worked for Olson's Poultry in Worthington. Fred married Lucile Hauglid on May 5, 1936 at Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The couple lived in Worthington until 1946 and then moved to Jasper. In 1947 they moved to Heron Lake and purchased the Lake Theatre and operated this until 1962. Fred also became a real estate broker in 1952 and continued that business until he retired.
Fred was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Heron Lake and served on the church board for 25 years and on the building committee. Fred, a civic minded person, served on the board of directors of the Heron Lake Hospital and Lakeview Nursing Home and also on the building committee. He served on the nursing home's board of trustees for 25 years. Fred passed away Saturday evening May 2, 1998 at the Lakeview Nudrsing Home in Heron Lake. He was 92 years of age. Fred is survived by his wife Lucile Deuth of Heron Lake; two sons Robert B. and his wife Carol Deuth of Sherwood, Oregon and Roger A. and his wife Becky Deuth of Willmar; two dauthters, Gloria and her husband Eugene Hart of Waseca and Marilyn and her husband Larry Johnson of Blaine; nine grandchildren; seven great garandchildren; one brother Claude and his wife Arlene Wibbens of Worthington and three sisters, Grace Bruner of Worthington, Jessie and her husband Frank Just of Worthinton and Laura Wibbens of Worthington. Fred was preceded in death by his parents, one son Larry K. Deuth, three brothers and three sister.
