From a local newspaper clipping inside the back cover of Ella Jones Dickinson's photo album:
Samuel Dickinson Dead
Died at his home near town, Tuesday morning, February 18, 1902, of pneumonia, Samuel Dickinson, aged about 40 years.
His death came as a shock to the community, for very few knew that he was ill. His illness was of only about ten days duration and up to the time of contracting the cold which resulted in his death, he was the very picture of health.
Samuel Dickinson was a man popular with all, one who could be trusted and depended upon under all circumstances.
He was a member of the Modern Woodmen of American and leaves, we are informed, a policy of $3,000, to his family.
His wife is a daughter of "Uncle" Davy Jones, of this city, and she and her three children have the sympathy of the entire community in the loss of the husband and father.
The remains were tenderly laid away in the cemetery at Middle River church, Wednesday morning, the funeral service being conducted by Rev. T.P. Middleton.
