John was a close friend from way back when we met at Kent State in 1972. We also both worked as camp counselors at a summer camp in 73. We hiked and climbed together several times in the Grand Tetons and at Shenandoah National Park. The last time I saw him was a few years ago before we moved. He came up to Gettysburg with his daughter on that occassion. I lost touch with him (his e-mail and Facebook Page had disappeared and my cell phone with all my friend's numbers stored in it had died on me) and I was trying to re-establish our communications but just discovered yesterday that he had died over a year ago. I am very much saddened by the news and will miss him greatly. He was a fun person to be with and one of my best friends from college days. RIP

John - you've got 90 notes now, which shows how much we all thought of you. Remember when we were joking by email at midnight about how much you hated the little cartoons? Your dry humor had me on the floor ROTFLOL. Here's a Peace Symbol for you - at least it's not blinking in rainbow colors, right? Love you my friend, and I will pay your kindness forward the rest of my life. ~Patty the Irish McC

John is a cousin through our mutual Gronewald line and he did so much research on them it is amazing. Although I only knew him via our emails over the last several years (our schedules never coincided to be able to meet when he was in the Peoria area) I feel blessed to not only call him cousin, but friend as well. He will be greatly missed, but I know he is having a grand time in Heaven discovering all the ancestor information that eluded him here on earth.
