This was quite a feat. He left El Paso thinking that he had family in Tome that he could join. Once he got to Tome, he found that he had no family and was alone. Father Ralliere took pity on him and took him under his wing.
Luis became a master carpenter. His exquisite craftsmanship can still be seen in the various statues in the church. He built an ornate confessional, a sarcophagus and other church objects.
He eventually married and raised a family. Many of his descendants still live in the area.
