In the 1900 U.S. census, 27 yr. old Rachael Adams, b. Feb. 1873 in NJ was living on W. Seventh in Los Angeles Ward 4, Los Angeles, California with her
46 yr. old widowed mother, Caroline Adams (no occupation listed, b. Dec. 1853 in NY
and 20 yr. old brother, Charles Adams, a clerk for the Santa Fe Rd., b. Jan. 1880 in CA.
Rachael and Charles's father was b. in France.
Both of Caroline's parents were b. in NY. Caroline was the mother of three children, two of whom were still alive at the time of this census.

In the 1930 U.S. census, 50 yr. old Rachel Adams, b. 1880 in NJ, was living at 919 Palm in South Pasadena, L.A. Co., CA. with her
80 yr. old widowed mother and head of household, Caroline H. Adams, (no occupation listed) b. in Michigan
and 45 yr. old single brother, Charles G. (Gibbs) Adams, a landscape architect with his own office, b. in CA.

Rachel Adams Rites Tomorrow
Funeral services will be held tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. for Miss Rachel Adams, 919 Palm Ave., South Pasadena, who died Saturday after an illness of several months. Services will be at the chapel of Turner, Stevens and Eggleston, South Pasadena. The Rev. Gilbert P. Prince of St. James Episcopal Church, South Pasadena will be officiating. Interment will be in the San Gabriel Cemetery.
Miss Adams was the sister of the late Charles Gibbs Adams, landscape engineer, who died in December, 1953. Her grandfather, George Clinton Gibbs, an attorney of Brooklyn and New York, and Mrs. Gibbs sailed around the Horn to settle in California in the early 1870's before Pasadena was founded. The family was active in the early days of the Church of Our Saviour, San Gabriel.
After the death of Miss Adams' father, the mother, Mrs. Caroline Adams, taught French and music. Later, Miss Rachel and Charles Gibbs Adams lived on the side of the old Garfias Adobe, the gardens becoming popular as the meeting place for gatherings of historical groups in which Miss Adams and her brother participated.

ADAMS – Miss Rachel Adams of 919 Palm Ave., South Pasadena passed away Jan. 26, 1957. A native of New Jersey, she had been a resident of this community for several years. She is survived by two nephews, Theodore Adams Jr. of Richmond, Calif. And Philip T. Adams of South Pasadena, a niece Mrs. Herbert McElwee of San Francisco. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the chapel of Turner, Stevens & Eggleston, 1000 Fremont Ave., South Pasadena with Dr. Gilbert P. Prince officiating. Interment San Gabriel Cemetery.
