PETERSBURG,WEST VIRGINIA -- Eula M. Alt, 98, of Petersburg, died Friday, April 23, 1999, at the Heartland of Keyser Nursing Home, where she had been a resident since Dec. 17, 1997.
Born Jan. 28, 1901, in Petersburg, she was the daughter of the late Van and Mary Florence (Hedrick) Bergdoll. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Simon Alt, in October 1926; and two brothers, Evers and Cletus Bergdoll. She was the last member of her immediate family.
Mrs. Alt was a member of Hedrick Chapel United Methodist Church, Rough Run, and attended Grove Street United Methodist Church and was a member of the NGU Sunday School Class. Church was very important to her. She was a member of Burlington United Methodist Family Services Inc. Auxiliary. She spent a lot of time with her vegetable garden and canning. Her evenings and winters were spent making quilts, crocheting doilies and making fancy handiwork. Nieces and nephews remember visiting her and eating her sugar cookies and apple pie.
Surviving are one daughter, Imogene Brake and husband Gene, Petersburg; one granddaughter, Donna Kuhn, Petersburg; two great-grandsons, Tyler and Jonathan Kuhn; two sisters-in-law, Maxine Bergdoll, Petersburg, and Esta Bergdoll, Dorcas; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at the Schaeffer Funeral Home, Petersburg, on Sunday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Richard L. Longbon officiating.
Interment will be in the Bergdoll Family Cemetery, Rough Run.
Memorials may be made to the Petersburg Volunteer Fire Department, Burlington United Methodist Family Services Inc., or the charity of the donor's choice.
