Kate Edie Calhoun Alt, age 105, of Petersburg, WV died Thursday, July 7, 2011 at Grant Memorial Hospital. She was born May 5, 1906 in Brushy Run, WV and was the daughter of the late Martin Dow Calhoun and Rachael Ann (Graham) Calhoun. Kate was preceded in death by her husband, Okey T. Alt on March 4, 1988; one daughter, Anna Dale Alt; one son Maxel Dow Alt; two grandchildren Lynne Machefzky and David Alt; daughter-in-law Hazel Alt; seven brothers, Scott, Albridge, Curtis, Don, Carl, Olin and Quentin Calhoun; four sisters, Mabel Calhoun, Verna Riggleman, Lillian Miller and Bessie Heavener. She is the last surviving member of her immediate family. Kate graduated from St. John's Academy in 1929 and taught school in Pendleton and Grant County for a few years. She was a member of Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church at Mozer, WV. She attended South Mill Church of the Brethren where she taught Sunday School for several years and attended Bethel Church of the Brethren. Surviving; one daughter; M. Rosalie Heavener and husband, Paul of Petersburg, WV. One son: Vivan C. Alt of Petersburg, WV. 8 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 3 step great grandchildren, numerous great-great grandchildren and one great-great-great granddaughter.
