Nancy was usually known by her middle name, Minerva. She was the daughter of William C. "Bill" Reedy and Charlotte Martin. Her parents brought her to Dallas County before 1860. Minerva married Jessie M. Smith on April 26, 1865, in Dallas County. By the age of 30 she was widowed with three daughters: Susan, Charlotte E., and Jessie E. They lived on a farm. In 1880 Minerva's brother and her mother were living with Minerva and her daughters.

In 1900 Minerva lived with her daughter Susan, son-in-law, and grandchildren. Minerva died at their home in 1932. Funeral services were conducted at the Methodist Church of Lawson by the Rev. Charles Dickey of Mesquite.
