U.S. Congressman. He was born in northern Virginia and began practicing law there in the 1820s. He served in the Virginia House of Delegates (1830-1831) and was later elected to Congress as a Democrat, serving from March 4, 1841 to March 3, 1843. Afterward he became a newspaper editor in Washington, D.C. and was chargé d'affaires to the Argentine Republic (1846–1851). He died in Missouri at age 58.
