John Manual Landon is the son of Emanuel and Mary D. (Fetterman) Landon. He married Anne Mossman in Sandy Lake, PA. They had 2 children, Alfred and Helen.
John belonged to the M.E. Church. He taught school while he lived in Conneautville, Pennsylvania.

John graduated from Allegheny College in PA. He was a member of the Delta Tau Delta Fraternity.

John moved to Ohio and then went on to Kansas. While he was in Ohio he was the Superintendent of Union Oil Co in OH. After John moved to Kansas (about 1905) he became the Superintendent of Kansas Natural Gas Co.

John was a Republican. He worked on the Bull Moose Campaign with his son, Alf. He was, also, a delegate to the GOP National Convention.

John's wife, Anne, is supposedly buried in the Conneautville Cemetery, in Pennsylvania, however, other records indicate she is buried with her husband in Mount Hope Cemetery, in Topeka, Kansas.
