U.S. Congressman. Immigrating to the United States in 1899, he became a successful food merchant in Rochester, New York. Entering politics, he was supervisor of Monroe County (1934-35), served in the New York State Senate (1937-38), and was a member of the Genesee State Park Commission (1942-48). In 1945, he was elected as a Democrat to the Seventy-ninth Congress, serving until 1947. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he resumed his previous business interests until his death.
