He was a member of St. James Methodist Church in Smithfield, WV., for more than 60 years. He and his wife owned and operated the Holiday Motel on the Mile ground for many years. He served in the U. S. Army during WWII and the Korean conflict.
He is survived by a stepson, Walter "Bud" Moody of Myrtle Beach, S. C., a half sister Laureda Justice of Betsey Lane, KY., two first cousins, Creal Singleton of Bridgeport and Jeannie Banks of Isom, KY.; several step-grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jessie W. Cowie Hughes.
Friends may call at Hastings Funeral Home from 4-7 p.m. Thursday and 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday, June 23, time of services with the Rev. Dr. Stacy L. Groscup officiating. Burial will be in East Oak Grove Cemetery.
