William Bolinger Died Thursday
Civil War Veteran and Oldest Poultryman in County
William Bolinger, aged eighty nine, died Thursday at his home about half way between Clarksville and Pendleton [Green Township]. The funeral will be held at the late residence of the deceased at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon and the interment will take place at Pendleton.
Mr. Bolinger is survived by the widow, Mrs. Laura V. Bolinger and three sons, Charles of Middletown and Allen and Rolland of Pendleton.
Until last year Mr. Bolinger would walk to Pendleton to do his trading and always assisted with the work on the farm until this season. Since he was six years of age he always lived on the farm where he died. He was a civil war veteran having served three years in Company B 89th Indiana Infantry. He was probably the oldest poultry raiser in the United States. Starting in this occupation before the civil war, he shipped chickens to nearly every state in the nation.

He mustered out at Mobile, Alabama after serving with General William Sherman. One article lists him at Gettysburg, but the unit history shows the 89th at Vicksburg and many other western battles, but not in any eastern battles.
