Known as Dan Hensley, born June 16, 1896 in Egypt township of Yancey county, NC, son of William Andrew Hensley and Rachel M Edwards. Had one child, Amos Hensley, with Martha Jane Edwards in 1917 in Bee Log, Yancey county, NC. Worked as a timber cutter in 1918 for the Carolina Spruce Company of Pensacola, Yancey county, NC while living in Swiss, Yancey county. Daniel left Martha Jane Edwards and his son, Amos, before moving to Ewin, TN with his father, mother, and brothers where he, his father, and three older brothers worked in the zinc mines. Daniel married Mary Jane Mathis on April 25, 1922 in Caney Fork, Jackson county, NC. He and Mary Jane had seven children (Atlas; Althea; Lora; Luke; Zora; Bertha; Andrew) and lived farming primarily in Caney Fork with the exception of a brief time around 1930 where they lived in Egypt township, Yancey County. Dan contracted tuberculosis around 1934 and died at 2:00PM on March 2, 1935 at the age of 38, and was buried at Balsam Grove Cemetery on March 4, 1935. After Dan's death, Mary Jane remarried to John Brendle. Mary Jane died from tuberculosis on April 26, 1940 at the age of 31.
