Averet O. Hargis, 69, 1211 W. 10th St., died Friday at Ball Hospital after an extended illness. He was born in Overton, Tenn., and moved to Muncie in the 1950s. He was employed with Goodyear Tire and Rubber and later with Dayton Walther here, where he retired in 1981.
He is survived by his wife, Myrtle; four sons, Alton, Hershel, Marshel and Richard, all of Muncie; a daughter, Mrs. Ron (Linda) Kissick, Muncie; a brother, Omer Hargis, Walkerville; three sisters, Eula Hayne, Phoenix, Ariz., Vi Evea Smith, Livingston, Tenn., and R.E. Smith, Lewisburg, Tenn.; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two stepgrandsons, and four step-great-grandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday in Parson Mortuary-Adams Chapel. Burial will be in Elm Ridge Cemetery. Calling hours are 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today and prior to services Monday at the mortuary.
