MOUNT VERNON, Mo. — Mary Elizabeth "Bessie" Edwards, 87, Mount Vernon, died at 11:36 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, 1998, at Cox Medical Center South, Springfield, after a long illness. Mrs. Edwards was born Jan. 20, 1911, in the Cato community, south of Jenkins. She was a lifetime area resident and homemaker. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church, rural Verona. She married Charles Efton Edwards on March 28, 1931, at Cassville. He died Feb. 8, 1965. She was also preceded in death by a son and two daughters. Survivors include three sons, Franklin Edwards, Cassville, Joe Edwards, Purdy, and Charles Edwards, Mount Vernon; six daughters, Doris Butler and Thelma Duncan, both of Cassville, Clemma Taylor, Butterfield, Julia "Judy" Moore, Purdy, Virgie Hall, Monett, and Mary Bunch, Mount Vernon; a brother, Chester Ray, Shell Knob; 42 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren; and six great-great grandchildren. Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Williamson Funeral Home, Cassville, with Jarvis Barrett and Carroll Williamson officiating. Burial will be in Mineral Springs Cemetery, Cassville. Grandsons Darrell Butler, Harold Wells, Mike Duncan, Rick Taylor, Randy McGlothlin and Steve Duncan will serve as pallbearers.
