Verrill Saylor was born Sept. 24, 1916 in Calloway, Bell County, Kentucky. She was the daughter of Willoughby Saylor of Harlan County, Kentucky and Alice Lee of Pathfork, Harlan County, Kentucky. She married Edd Clark of Claiborne County, Tennessee in Bell County on Sept. 21, 1936. They had two children: Mary Alice Clark born May 1, 1939 in Cumberland Gap, Tennessee and Phil Harris Clark born May 6, 1942 in Cumberland Gap. Verrill was widowed at age 29. She moved to Long Beach, California for 9 years then returned back to Lee County,Virginia where she bought a house in Gibson Station, five miles from Cumberland Gap. There she owned and operated a drive-in restaurant and then an antique shop (Clark's Antiques) for many years till her death in the Claiborne County Hospital on March 25, 1988 at age 72. Six grand-children and one great grand-child. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
