Robert Worth Bingham, age 66 died Saturday evening at the John Hopkins hospital following a diagnostic operation. Mr. Bingham, publisher of the Courier-Journal and Louisville Times and US Ambassador to Great Britian was born in Orange Co, NC. He graduated from Bingham School, Ashville, University of North Carolina, the University of VA and the University of Louisville law school. He also studied at the University of Michigan. In 1918 he purchased the Louisville papers and was widely known throughout the nation. He was elected to County Attorney in Jefferson County in 1904 and Mayor of Louisville in 1907, the Chancellor of the Jefferson Circuit Court in 1911. The body was accompanied by the Representatives of President Roosevelt, the State Department and British Government arrived in Louisville on Monday. A detachment of Cavalry escorted the funeral part from the train to the Calvary Episcopal Church where the body lay in state until the noon service. A private burial was held in the Cave Hill Cemetery.
