Mrs. Emma Anders Brown, of Newport, Arkansas, departed this life just after sunrise on Easter Morning, April 24, 2011, at the age of 94, surrounded by her devoted and loving family.
She was born at Newport on January 19, 1917, ninth in the line of the twelve children born to the union of Lem Dock and Lillar (Sampler) Anders.
Miss Emma Anders married Mr. Dan Henry Brown in March of 1936.
After her marriage, she spent her life caring for her family as a homemaker. When the last of her eight children became adults, she began to work outside the home. Mrs. Brown worked several years at Newport Hospital and Castleberry Elementary School. She was a faithful member of the Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, where she served as a deaconess, sang in the choir, was Vice President of the Choir Missionary Society, and enjoyed orchestrating services for her church family at Easter, Mother's Day, and other special occasions. She was a member of the Willing Workers Club.
Mrs. Brown enjoyed her life, especially traveling and spending time gardening, growing both flowers and vegetables. Her greatest love and joy in life came from spending time with her family.
Mrs. Brown was greeted this Easter morning by family who had gone before her; loving husband, Dan Henry Brown, Sr.; beloved children, L. D. Brown and Emma Ruth Brown; five beloved grandchildren, Sherman, Pamela, Bobby Wayne, Tony, and Rodney; six brothers; five sisters; and her dear parents.
She leaves to mourn her passing, four sons, Bobby C. Brown of St. Louis, Missouri, Dan H. Brown, Jr., and wife Lynn of Bull Valley, Illinois, R. J. Brown of St. Louis, Missouri, and Willie R. Brown of St. Louis, Missouri; two daughters, Shirley Williams and husband Eddie of Newport, and Mae Kathryn Dupens and husband Alvin of Newport; a daughter-in-law, Fera Brown of St. Louis, Missouri; grandchildren, Howard Gene, Steve, Marilyn, Emma Ruth, Sharon, Henry, Deitra, Danny, Mia, Kenneth, Charlotte, Brainard, Darnell, Eleanor, Elmer, Katrina, Alvin III, and Stephanie; and several great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Scipio Brown Anders of Newport and Willie Mae Rainey Anders of Poplar Bluff, Missouri; many other relatives and a lifetime of friends.

Funeral services were held at Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church with interment was in Mt. Zion Cemetery. There were spoken remembrances by her daughter, Shirley Williams, granddaughter, Katrina Williams and Mary C. Klein.
