He married Elizabeth Miniely June 2, 1871 in Middlesex, Ontario. They had son Andrew, March 1, 1873. A second child, Elizabeth C. was born Feb. 13, 1875 and died March 27, 1875. Wife Elizabeth died as well. According to Conkey family bio, she apparently contracted a disease from the doctor which was her cause of death as well as several of his other patients.
Dave married married Nancy Catherine Hall September 26, 1877 in Middlesex, Ontario. They had Robert, Gordon and Harry before they came to South Dakota in 1883. After arriving in York Twp., Hand County, two more children were born; Susan in 1889 and Clarence in 1901, for a total of 6 children.
When Dave, wife and children came to South Dakota from Canada, they brought along Dave's brothers, Sam, Robert and Ellick Conkey as well as his wife, Nancy's brother, Archie Hall. The three Conkey brothers sold out in 1892 and returned to Canada, as did Archie Hall later in 1911.
The Conkeys did threshing all around the area for years. Besidess farming, they raised cattle and horses. They broke colts in the winter, and sold them to a man from New York each spring.
In 1916 Dave, with the help of his sons, built a house in St. Lawrence where he and Nancy retired.
