John Page Nelson graduated from Jefferson Medical Hospital of Philadelphia. He was born in Virginia and his family came to the Columbus, GA area about 1838. He was a surgeon and a plantation owner in Albany and well respected member of the community. He was very civic minded and was often mentioned in the papers of the time. He was an active member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Albany.
Family lore says that he died in Milford, GA, a small community Southwest of Albany, in 1866 due to injuries sustained during the Civil War, where he was a surgeon in the Army. This fact has not been proven or denied as of this date. No record could be found of his death in Albany or Milford. His burial remains a mystery also. His siblings, and father are buried in Linwood Cemetery in Columbus, GA but John P. Nelson is not. His one brother Thomas M. Nelson is buried in Oakview Cemetery in Albany, GA in the TIFT family plot, the founding family of Albany which Thomas M. Nelson married into.
This cemetery is very old and there are many unmarked graves due to age and floods. The cemetery records have been lost due to a massive flood in 1994 and therefore I am assuming that John P. Nelson could be buried here.

Known as Eliza, she appears in the 1860 Census for Dougherty County, Georgia with her husband, John P. Nelson and 2 of their children. Their last daughter, Eliza Page Nelson had not been born at the time. John P. Nelson died in 1866 and sometime between then and 1870 Eliza Hora Nelson and her daughters moved back north to Rahway where they appear in the 1870 census for Rahway, Ward 3.
