J. M. Nettles, Retired ACL Employee, Dies
Jesse Martin Nettles, retired Atlantic Coast Line employee, died yesterday afternoon at his residence, 522 Reed St.

The 86 year old citizen had been ill for some time. Prior to his retirement in 1952 Nettles was active in civil affairs.

His railroad career spanned over half a century. He began work with the Atlantic Coast Line at the age of 17 in High Springs, Fla.

He had been a resident of Waycross since 1923 when he was transferred here with the Atlantic Coast Line. His railroad career also included employment with the Central of Georgia railroad.

He was a member of Clinton Masonic Lodge 54 of Savannah. He formerly held membership in the Elks Lodge and Moose Lodge.

A native of Seminole, South Carolina he was born March 13, 1874, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Elwin (Edwin) Nettles.

He married February 21, 1899 to Rosa Cato Easterlin in Alachua, Fla.

Nettles is survived by his wife, one son, J. Frank Nettles, Jacksonville and four daughters, Mrs. Olive N. Still, Homestead, Fla.; Mrs. A. M. Crawford, Waycross; Mrs. McAllister Marckres, West Palm Beach, Fla.; nine grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren

Funeral services will be held tomorrow at 11 a.m. at the residence, 522 Reed Street.

Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. Remains will be carried to the residence at 9 a.m. Saturday where the body will lie in state until funeral services. Mincy Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
