Samuel Dickey, a son of Ebenezer A. and Mary (Eslinger) Dickey, was an early resident of New London, Iowa. Samuel married twice, first to Elizabeth "Betsey" Mathis, who died, and next, in 1862, to Mary Elizabeth (Furry) Dickey. Mary had been married to Samuel's brother, Isaac Newton Dickey, who died between 1857/60. Mary (Furry) Dickey's sister was Harriet B. Furry; Harriett had married the widower John Faucett Tryer in 1855 after the death of his first wife, Rebecca (Walker) Tryer.
