Arthur W. Ritter, 94, of Hughesville passed away January 30, 2011, at the the Muncy Valley Hospital Skilled Nursing Unit. He was born April 14, 1916, in Williamsport, a son of the late George P. and Elsie M. Burns Ritter. Arthur married Ella Alberta Foote Ritter on January 5, 1942. Alberta predeceased him on April 15, 2006.

Arthur was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, Hughesville. He graduated from the Williamsport High School, Class of 1934. Arthur served in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1945.

In his early years, he worked as a baker for Stroehmann's Bakery. He had also been employed as a plumber by Dick Walter's Plumbing, Joseph R. Mailo, Kellogg's Piping, and the maintenance department of Hughesville School District.

Arthur enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, reading, fishing, camping, and traveling. Arthur and Alberta traveled to all 50 states, Canada, and Europe.

He held membership in the Odd Fellows Lodge 116 IOOF, Masonic Lodge and the Plumbers Union 520.

He is survived by one brother, Thomas E. Ritter Sr., Williamsport; and several nieces and nephews.

Arthur was preceded in death by seven brothers, John N., George H., Lloyd B., Ernest R., Samuel L., Robert and Raymond W. Ritter; and one sister Esther Casson. Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Thursday, February 3, 2011, at the McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 557 E. Water, Hughesville. Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 3 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

The family will provide the flowers and suggest memorial contributions to the Susquehanna Health Foundation, c/o Muncy Valley Hospital Skilled Nursing Unit Activity Fund, 1001 Grampian Blvd., Williamsport, PA 17701 or the Hughesville Public Library, 146 S. Fifth St., Hughesville, PA 17737.
