Graveside service for Lorene "Josephine" Atkins will be 2 p.m., Tues., Dec. 21, at Chelsea Cemetery with Rev. Michael Clark officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Musgrove-Merriott-Smith Funeral Service & Crematory. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Mon. 1-8 p.m.
Josephine died Thurs., Dec. 16, 2010, at The Brookfield Assisted Living Center at the age of 97.
The daughter of Sebastian Cabot "S.C." and Nancy "Jane" (Miller) Williams was born April 1, 1913, in Wyandotte. She attended Wyandotte Elementary and graduated from Chelsea High School. In Oct. 1933, Lorene married Kenneth Arden "Red" Atkins in Wyandotte. They moved to Claremore 37 years ago from Skiatook. Josephine was a homemaker. She enjoyed gardening and bird watching. She was a member of St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, and the Order of Eastern Star. She received her 50 year membership from the Eastern Star's in 1999.
Josephine is preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth "Red" Atkins; her parents; daughter, Hallie Jane Ennis; sons: Terry Don Atkins and Kenneth J. Atkins; 4 brothers, and 2 sisters.
She is survived by her grandchildren: Barry Atkins of Bastrop, TX, Joseph Atkins of Liberal, KS, Jamison Atkins of Branson, MO, Jill Damron of Southwest City, MO, David Atkins of St. Louis, MO, and Kathleen Atkins of St. Louis, MO; and 3 great-grandchildren
