*** Note that the birth date I've used on Clarence's memorial is the one from his death and burial record, not his tombstone which is May 22, 1871. I'm confident the death and burial records are correct because of what you can see in the 1870 census. In that census taken in July of 1870, he is indicated to be a 1 month old. Obviously just to be in that census, he couldn't have been born in 1871. Also, the May 22 you see for his birthday on his tombstone is the birthday for his last wife Anna Cole, my great aunt. ***

Clarence Reed Campbell was the son of James K. Polk Campbell and Frances Reed. He married first Bettie J. Sanders in 1890, second Lula Mae Bledsoe before 1909, and lastly Anna Cole in 1916.

The 1900 census seems to indicate that Clarence and Bettie had children, but none were alive at that point in time. The number of children born to Bettie may have been 3 or 4, but it's difficult to read.

Tragically, his second wife Lula died shortly after giving birth to their apparent first child Louise, and then Louise died 5 days later. He was married to Bettie from 1890 to 1906, but I've found no evidence that he had any children with her, or at least none who lived. My aunts who remember him knew of no children.
