Funeral services were held Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2010, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Leeds, for Madeline J. Benshoof, 94, of Leeds, formerly of Churchs Ferry, who died Wednesday, Sept. 1 at the Heart of America Nursing Facility in Rugby.

Burial was in the church cemetery.

Madeline was born Sept. 3, 1915, in Halliday, a daughter of Joseph and Margaret (Hellman) Voltz. She attended school and later cooked in a cafe in Halliday. She married Bert Benshoof on Sept. 9, 1933, in Hazen. They lived in Hurdsfield until 1939, when they moved to Leeds. The family moved to Churchs Ferry in 1952 when they purchased the grocery store, which they operated until retiring in 1976. Bert died Jan. 21, 1998. She moved into Leeds in 2001, and in July of this year became a resident at the Heart of America Nursing Facility.

She is survived by her daughter, Darlene Pierson, Knox; sons, Pat, Leeds, Jerry, Moore, Okla., and Roger, Pleasant Plains, Ill.; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bert; grandsons, Steven and Dwight Pierson; sisters, Margaret Anderson and Hilda Belcourt; and brothers, Joseph, John and Leo Voltz.

Fr. Joseph D'Aco officiated. Music was provided by Darlene Albertson, soloist, and Doris Michaels, organist.

Casketbearers were grandsons, great-grandsons, and great-great-grandsons.
