LAST RITES HELD FOR MILTON ENBERG
Milton Enberg, Route 2 Aitkin, passed away Sunday Aug. 19, 1951, at the Veterans hospital in Minneapolis, following his second operation for a brain tumor. He had been in ill health since before his discharge from the army on Jan. 21, 1944.
The son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Enberg, Milton was born at Anoka, Minn., on June 21, 1918. He attended Butts school south of Aitkin. On Nov. 18, 1940, he joined the National Guard company at Aitkin, and went to Camp Claibourne, La., for training. He served as a Technician, Fourth Grade, in the Headquarters Co. for the 34th Division.
It was on Feb. 18, 1942, that he left the United States for the European-African-Middle Eastern theatre of operations and he served overseas until Jan. 5, 1944. At the time of his discharge he was hospitalized at Finney General hospital, Thomasville, Ga.
His marriage to Marie Holder of Aitkin took place Jan. 15, 1945, at Aitkin. They made their home south of Aitkin where they had built a new house. One son, Dale, was born to them. As a result of his illness, Milton gradually lost his sight. After his first operation, his condition greatly improved and he learned to weave on a loom contributed by members of the DAV, Chapter 11. He also set up a workshop in his basement, where he turned out fine pieces of woodwork. He belonged to both the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Disabled American Veterans.
The young man is survived by his wife and son, his parents Mr. and Mrs. Joe Enberg, a sister Mrs. William (Jessie) Langton, Boulder, Colo., two brothers, Gordon, Palm Dale, Calif., and Donald Enberg, Aitkin, and his grandmother, Mrs. L. L. Long, Wheatland, S. Dak.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 o'clock Wednesday Aug. 22, from the Aitkin Methodist church with the Rev. Allyn H. Hanson officiating. Mrs. Robert Haas sang "Safe in the Arms of Jesus" and "Beyond the Sunset" with accompaniment by Mrs. Royce Peterson.
Pallbearers included Dick Carlson, Bill Carlson, Frank Lafferty, Byron Kurtz, Myron Langren, Holt Constantine. Honorary pallbearers were Edwin Johnson, Bryce Kelsey, Orval Woodrow, Lee Bridge, Orion Will, and Russell Erickson. Interment was in Lakeview Cemetery.
The Aitkin business houses displayed their flags at half-mast on Wednesday in Mr. Enbergs memory.
