Mrs. Judith Ella Spence Bernard, 97, of 246 Raintree Road died in a hospital Wednesday.
She was the widow of Thornton Stith Bernard and a daughter of James T. and Mrs. Christian Etheridge Spence.
A native of Pasquotank County, N.C., she lived here 85 years.
She was a member of Ghent United Methodist Church, Norfolk.
She is survived by four daughters, Mrs. William W. Gayle of Virginia Beach, Mrs. Edward T. Caton Jr. of Chesapeake, Mrs. Donald E. Neblett of Richmond, and Mrs. Harry L. Nicholas Jr. of Norfolk; two sons, Robert S. Bernard of Chesapeake and Thornton S. Bernard Jr. of Virginia Beach; four grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.
A funeral service will be held in H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk, Saturday at 2 p.m. by the Rev. Howard Peters and the Rev. William P. Gardner of Princess Anne Plaza United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery, Norfolk.
The body will remain in H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, Laskin Road, until Saturday morning when it will be brought to Norfolk.
