Thunderbolt - Mary Lee Shimkus Brodeur died Monday, May 21, 2007 at her home under the care of Hospice after a lifetime struggle with diabetes.
She was born in Savannah on July 24, 1946 to James and Ann Marie Shimkus.
Mary Lee attended Nativity of Our Lord Catholic School, St. Vincent's Academy and St. Joseph's Nursing School.
Her passion for nursing was spent in the Neo-Natal Intensive Care Unit at Memorial Health University Medical Center.
Mimi as she was affectionately known was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, friend and communicant of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Jennifer Krcelic and her husband Brian of Ft. Walton Beach, FL, and Donyiel Brodeur of Savannah; sister, Sister Barbara Shimkus, R.S.M. of Savannah; brother, Denny Shimkus (Pat) of Waycross, GA ; grandchildren, Corey and McKenzie Krcelic; nephews, Matt Shimkus (Kelly) of Atlanta and Kenny Shimkus (Chris) of Waycross and two aunts, Martha Wertick and Lee Gowan of Tucson, AZ.
Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 23, 2007 at the Islands Chapel of Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors with a Rosary Service at 6:00 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, May 24, 2007 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with Reverend Ray Levreault, Celebrant.
Burial will follow in the Catholic Cemetery.
Remembrances can be made to St. Vincent's Academy, 207 E. Liberty St., Savannah, GA 31401 or St. Mary's Home, 2170 E. Victory Dr., Savannah, GA 31404.
